I am a consultant anaesthetist based at Royal Stoke University Hospital. I provide anaesthesia for patients undergoing vascular surgery, extensive maxillo-facial tumour resections & reconstruction, high-risk nephrectomies, robotic partial nephrectomies, excision of pheochromocytoma’s and orthopaedic patients. I provide anaesthetic services to both upper limb and lower limb orthopaedic procedures. I have a very good experience of performing nerve blocks using ultrasound and I have achieved high success rates with minimal complications.

For lower limb arthroplasties (hip & knee replacements), I advise a spinal anaesthetic with sedation. Patients are given the autonomy to decide on the level of sedation needed. In the event of contraindications for spinal anaesthetic, a general anaesthetic will be administered. I perform opioid-free spinal anaesthetic because it reduces the side effects, such as nausea/vomiting, itching & urinary retention. We strongly believe in “Enhanced Recovery” and this particular technique is best suited for it.

We aim to achieve early mobilisation & rehabilitation. Good analgesia is paramount to achieve this. We are consistently successful at achieving this. We have a pathway in place to perform day case arthroplasties in suitable patients. We audit our practices and try to incorporate recent advances into our practice. We will meet you on the day and explain the anaesthetic in further detail. All of your queries and concerns will be addressed.
